Botanicals to Support Immune health

Andrographis Paniculata has traditionally been used in Indian and Chinese herbal medicine to support seasonal immune health.  There are currently 33 published research of randomized controlled trials (7175 patients) either using Andrographis as a monotherapy and as herbal mixture, showing Andrographis to be effective in supporting the body’s overall immune response to help defend the body in the face of cold-weather challenges.

ParActin® is a patented extract from Andrographis paniculata, standardized to 50% andrographolide. ParActin® works by inhibiting NF-kB -- key regulator of the human immune and inflammatory response system. When NF-kB is inhibited, pro-inflammatory cytokines and proteins such as COX2, prostaglandins, IL-6, IL-12, INF-γ TNF-α can be reduced.

ParActin® also increases the Nrf2-Keap1-ARE (Antioxidant Response Element) pathway, to augment the body’s natural antioxidant enzymes such as heme oxygenase-1, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase, among others, to help reduce oxidative stress and promote healthy autophagy function.

There are many published studies on the immune-support mechanisms of action of andrographolide: Andrographolide modulate the innate immune response by regulating both classical and alternative activation of macrophages, and regulate specific antibody production.  It inhibits agent’s protein synthesis and expression, inhibits it from entering inside the cell wall, inhibits the agent’s DNA replications; reduces the agent’s receptor signaling, & decreases ACE2 expression.

Eurycoma Longifolia

Eurycoma longifolia also known as Tongkat Ali (TA), comes from the lush rainforest of Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Java, and Thailand.   The roots of TA have traditionally been used as a tonic, energy enhancer, and aphrodisiac. TA is an adaptogen, it modulates the free testosterone/cortisol level, improve mood state, enhance energy and endurance, and help with recovery.

LJ100® is a patented extract from Eurycoma longifolia, standardized to 40% glyco saponins and 22% Eurypeptides.  Cortisol is a stress hormone that promotes immunosenescence by inducing a shift from a CD4+ to CD8+ dominant pattern of immunity.  Several published human clinicals have confirmed that LJ100® reducing the cortisol stress hormone and elevate the free testosterone during endurance exercise as in volunteers with moderate stress.

Elderberry is primarily found in Europe and North America.  Black Elderberries have long been used in traditional cultures to support immune function. Elderberry has an extensive history of being used during seasonal immune challenges. Regarded as an “Elder” plant in Native American Herbalism, Elderberry has been used collectively by many tribes as a tonic medicine and food to promote health and vitality.

In another randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study during the influenza season of 1999 – 2000 in Norway, 60 volunteers received 15 ml of elderberry or placebo syrup four times a day for 5 days. Supplementation of elderberry help support immune function during seasonal immune challenges.
